Can We Talk?
Can We Talk? is a no-cost mental health support program designed for Black women aged 55 and older in the Greater Pittsburgh area. Through guided therapy sessions facilitated by licensed counselors, the program provides a safe, confidential space for participants to share their experiences, receive emotional support, and develop strategies to improve their mental well-being. By addressing systemic challenges, reducing stigma around mental health, and removing financial barriers to therapy, Can We Talk? empowers women to navigate life’s demands while fostering a sense of connection, healing, and resilience
The
Mission
“Can We Talk’s?” mission is to provide a supportive space for Black women ages 50+ to explore and discuss life transitions in a safe, non-judgemental, and confidential environment.
HOW IT WORKS
Can We Talk? is a cohort-model program consisting of six (6) weekly, two-hour group therapy sessions, held on the first Saturday of each month. In order to “graduate” from the program, participants must attend 3 sessions. After an initial opening session where the parameters of the group are discussed and agreed upon, each session provides an opportunity for participants to “dump their buckets” in a confidential environment with other women from their peer group. Psychologists or licensed counselors facilitate the group–providing group counseling, strategies, and discussion tools to help the women with their mental health journeys.
OUR FOCUS
While Can We Talk? focuses on Black women, the organization does not discriminate on the basis of race, political orientation, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, national origin, ethnicity, ancestry, marital status, veteran status, or mental or physical disability or any other status prohibited by applicable law.
